During our recent visit to the workshop of Vladimir Grechukhin in St. Petersburg I had the chance to personally select some PS Studio pipes.
PS Studio Pipes are still undervalued through pipesmokers but each of them is a really great mix of style and perfection. Vladimir Grechukhin is the designer; he is the Russian pipemaker with the longest history behind himself.PS Studio pipes are made by two pipemakers working in Vladimir’s workshop, under his close supervision. One of these craftsmen is Demin: he’s recently stamping his own name on those PS Studio that he makes from the beginning to the end.
PS Studio pipes are made with Italian briar, aged for three years. The available finishes are two: sandblasted coming in different colors, and smooth, when the briar allows to see a pure grain without imperfections. The mouthpiece is hand carved from an ebonite rod.
The “classic” inspiration, clearly seen in PS Studio pipes, is betrayed by the style of Vladimir that conceives many so-called "chubby".
You can often find some PS Studio pipes with exotic rings or extension, as well as horn and acrylic decorations,
The markings are concise but very clear: each pipe is stamped with "PS Studio, Handmade, Russia”.
